I often get asked by clients what they should wear for their family portrait session. It’s important to think about what each outfit will look like not only photographed together but also in pairs or with smaller grouping of some sort. For example, will the outfit still work if mom is photographed with her children or if dad is photographed with one of the children.
Here are some tips on selecting your wardrobe depending on the time of year you have your session.
If you are having a spring family portrait session, cobalt or navy blue has gain popularity and works well with a pair of bright skinnies paired with a fresh green top for a great color block effect. Choose pieces for the rest of the family that co-ordinates as it will create an effortless look.
Mother’s Day is the perfect time of year to have a mother/daughter session. Choose between dark or soft colors.
The Vintage Rose is great for families who want to do something a little different and will work great with my studio decor as well.
Jeans paired up with plum, purple, turquoise or grey blue is another look for the spring or summer.
For something different go with a 1950s retro look. Add a vintage car to your photo and you are all set.
Sweaters and knits are great for the Fall. Earth tones, orange and red are great colors to choose to go with the fall scenery.
For winter session whether you have them indoors or outdoors dark colors such as grey, black are great colors to choose. Also these are classic colors that will never go out of style.
If you choose to have your family portraits at my studio you can choose black or white for classic colors but these colors would go very well with the decor.
