Brigitte My Intern

April 4, 2014 | by Chantal Benoit Comments

At the beginning of the year I was approached by one of my teachers from Cite Collegiale, asking me if I would be interested in having an intern for 3 weeks. Originally, I said no since I manage well by myself.

Two days later, I thought of some tasks that needed to be done, during the slow month, and that it would be nice if I had someone to do them for me, so I could work on other tasks. My teacher had mentioned in her e-mail, that the intern had done a presentation on my company and the fact that she chose me over all the photographers in the world, piqued my curiosity about her. So I contacted my teacher with questions and this is where it all began.

Brigitte took the time to send me an e-mail shortly after I spoke to my teacher to request a consultation before her internship. I agreed thinking it would take 30 minutes, 3 hours later we were still talking. I explained to her that I worked afternoon and evenings, therefore if she wanted her internship with me, she would have to work on my schedule. She was very willing to take a 2 hour bus ride from Gatineau to Orleans to make this internship happen.

Her first day began on March 3rd, with a tour around the studio and a discussion of what we would do during her internship. She spent 3 weeks learning how to improve her craft by photographing pregnant females, babies, children and families, while also doing other tasks like disposal of negatives, distribution list clean up and meeting with clients.
